The New Forest Inn - An 18th-century country pub with forest-facing rooms, homemade pies, and dog-friendly accommodations
The New Forest Inn, an unspoiled 18th-century country pub, provides four quirky but cozy rooms-three ensuite and one with a private bathroom. The king-size and twin rooms feature comfy tub chairs overlooking wandering forest ponies, with heated cupboards for drying muddy winter gear. Chefs prepare homemade pies daily alongside a seasonal menu, with Classic Sunday Roasts including Yorkshire pudding, chipolata, and three meat options. Dogs are welcomed with treats, and the beer garden connects directly to forest walking paths. Live music events occasionally take place, along with activities like hiking in the surrounding New Forest National Park. Located just off the A35 near Lyndhurst, the Inn is 16 km from Southampton Guildhall.
Pros
Rooms offer views of free-roaming New Forest ponies from tub chairs.
Daily homemade pies and a rotating seasonal menu with locally sourced ingredients.
Direct forest access from the beer garden, ideal for dog walkers and cyclists.
Dog-friendly rooms and communal areas, with free treats provided.
Cons
Steep staircase access to first-floor rooms may challenge guests with mobility issues.
“This inn struck me as a restful base for exploring New Forest's walking and cycling trails. I noticed the staff earns praise for being welcoming and helpful, creating a secure atmosphere. The garden and outside spaces are attractive, adding to the appeal, especially with the local wildlife sometimes wandering by. I think its dog-friendly policy and gluten/dairy-free menu options will appeal to many.”
